In Progress: 3:15

BDMP presents a film directed by Michele Loschiavo

For most people it is just a time. For Michael it is a goal that he is determined to make.

A qualifying time for male runners between the ages of 35 to 40.

"I think this was when I knew that I wanted to run the Boston Marathon. Basically, because part of me thought that I couldn't qualify. In the past, my marathon PR (Personal Record) was 3:51 at Lake Placid. I would have to cut thirty-six minutes off my best time… thirty-six minutes off my best marathon time. In roughly the span of one year…"

"I can do this."

Centered on long distance running and the personal goal of qualifying to the 2007 Boston Marathon, 3:15 will show the commitment of a runner and the sacrifices he and his family makes so he may run. This documentary will begin in August of 2005 as Michael Zolomij trains for the 2005 Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). The 2004 MCM was Michael's first marathon in which he finished with a respectable 03:56:25. In 2005, he hopes to finish in 03:30:00, slowly edging his way to achieving a 3:15 at the Chicago Marathon. The Chicago course is known to be fast and flat, making it the perfect race to qualify for Boston. The body of 3:15 will be told through interviews with Michael, family and friends, as well as seen through the training runs and races that Michael tries to accomplish within an already chaotic life. Working fulltime and holding on to some freelance work, Michael trains six days a week for the upcoming marathons. During this time his wife studies for her Doctorate and they both raise their four children (the oldest turning five in January 2006). Together their hard work and love for their children and one another make them an incredible team, able to achieve anything.

After the MCM, Michael plans run the Delaware Marathon and take another step closer to his final goal, October 22, 2006 the Chicago Marathon. For Michael to run a marathon in three hours and fifteen minutes is no joke and he knows this… all too well.

This is a journey through a year of training for that goal and a personal look into Michael's life as husband, father, son, and friend.

"Without fear and uncertainty, life would be a shallow existence. It's one year of hard training for me and Chicago is the end. After Chicago, Boston will just be fun… my goal will have already been met. Chicago is my true challenge. Chicago is what scares me."

Showreel

Editing: Red Hot Chili Peppers

This along with the Taj Mahal segment were edited for CDNow and used for web content. The Red Hot Chili Pepper interview was produced by W.Scott Prestwood and became one of the showcase pieces for the CDNow Video Production Department.

Editing: Gunslinger

I shot this in Deadwood, SD on a day that started with short sleeves and ended in a blizzard. Edited on an Avid Media Composer this is a longtime favorite that showcases a beautiful interview with a good story.

Editing: Change Trailer

I met Producer/Director Michele Loschiavo through a friend during pre-production of change. After a short conversation she asked if I would be interested on editing the dramatic short. This movie was the beginning of a long collaboration and most importantly friendship.

Editing: Panic

Over one weekend, this minute long PSA was created. Shot on a Saturday with a Sony PD-150 and lit with KinoFlos for the office scene and a 2k tungsten with a large soft box for the stand-up. A Chapman Super PeeWeeIV was also used for about 85% of shooting. Editing occur that following Sunday and the PSA was cut on a Avid Media Composer and later effected (film effect) on the Avid DS. The spot was directed by Michele Loshiavo and starred Michele’s twin Jennifer. Good people, good crew, great experience.

Editing: Taj Mahal

This series of web performances and interview created by Cdnow to support the release of Taj Mahal’s Shouting in Key. These segments were produced by Lori Rasso and exhibited on Cdnow’s website.

Editing: WCW Open

I will freely admit it, I have been a fan of professional wrestling since I was a kid. When the opportunity to create this open… I jumped at the chance. I pitched this open before you and along with shooting, operating Steadicam, and editing. Note: Film clips of wrestling were DP’ed by James Wood for these clips I operated Steadicam.

Cure By The Shore Open 2002 (QVC)
These Cure by the Shore opens were all shot in Ocean City, NJ with the exception of 1999, which was shot at the New Hope Theater in New Hope, PA. These opens were shot for less then $2,000 through the generous donations from Kodak, Shooters Post & Transfer, NFL Films, and Colorlab of Rockville, MD.

The 2002 open’s look was described to me in one word, 'blue'. Producers wanted to match a specific blue in the Cure by the Shore logo and this was achieved while still holding the warmth and hope that the charity truly deserved. This open was directed and conceived by W.Scott Prestwood and transferred at Shooters Post & Transfer by colorist Bob Lovejoy.

Cure By The Shore Open 2001 (QVC)
The 2001 open’s look was that of a sunrise and the hope that a new day brings. Directed by Michele Loschiavo and transferred at NFL Films by colorist Chris Pepperman, this open was a race against the sun and swarms of gnats but a great experience and a beautiful open.

Along with the show, this footage was used for the full length documentary, 'Cure by the Shore: A Touch of Hope'.

Cure By The Shore Open 1999 (QVC)
The 1999 open is still one of my favorites of this series. Director W.Scott Prestwood approached me to shoot this open around the same time that we had begun to discuss his documentary, 'The Final Touch'. This open will always symbolize a new start for me personally and professionally.

This was shot in super 16mm and transferred at Shooters Post & Transfer by colorist Bob Lovejoy.

Las Vegas Motorspeedway 2002 (QVC)
Filmed for QVC’s NASCAR show, 'For Race Fans Only' this commercial campaign was shot on 16mm, over three days, at Las Vegas Motorspeedway.

Tae Bo Commercial 2002 (QVC)
My vision for this commercial was merely, eye of the tiger and when I pitched it to the producer, he loved it. I quickly secured the talents of director and longtime collaborator Michele Loschiavo and film rolled on Super Bowl Sunday of 2002. Shot on 16mm, within five hours, this is one of my all time favorite spots.

The Final Touch 2000 (Prestwood Films)
Filmed over two years on location in Monte Vista, Creede, and Denver, Colorado, documentary producer/director W.Scott Prestwood followed funeral director Rusty Strohmeyer in his pursuit of life in the face of death. Collectively Scott and I lived with Rusty and his family for about two months and I could never put in words how much I enjoyed my time with this incredible family.
