Production: Rigged

When discussing this commercial shoot, we thought that we would raise the model up to frame the lower half of her body and follow her as she walked (we didn't have the "low-mode" attachment for the MovieTech dolly). But in the studio, to save time, we flipped the camera on the dolly to get the lower angle desired.

I am sure this has been done before but I had never seen this particular configuration. I just thought it was cool.

A big "thanks" to B.A. for showing me how to flip the monitor for proper viewing!

Old School!

Dave Perillo posted these on his site recently (http://montygog.blogspot.com/) and I thought it was brilliant... "I decided to spoof the old Hanna Barbera title cards you'd see right before a episode would start. I figured if the Beatles had a cartoon why couldn't the Ramones. They could drive around and solve mysteries and argue with each other, they'd even have a scrappy alley cat sidekick named Bonzo. I'm also working on a version featuring the Sex Pistols..."

Rock Steadi!

Yep, that's Jerry Holway sitting on his invention, Skyman. This was the last day of the Steadicam Operators Association's Spring Workshop at the Historic Yellowsprings. I had an opportunity to attend this workshop and it was just incredible. The instruction and amount of equipment was amazing. I have heard that Disney World has character breakfasts, where kids can sit and have breakfast with Mickey Mouse or a Disney Princess. Well, the morning that I walked into the Workshop breakfast and sat down across from Garrett Brown... man, there's my Disney Princess!

All joking aside, I want to thank the instructors as well as my peers for such a great time.

If you are interested in attending a SOA Workshop more info can be found at http://www.steadicam-ops.com/

Story of an Artist...

Sometimes you come across something in life that is so different and true that you are forced to either embrace or shun it. I have always been amazed by the raw simplicity and sincerity that is Daniel Johnston's music "...you start off hearing this noise and then eventually you hear the Beatles..."

Seeing Daniel Johnston at a show in Philly last Friday did not disappoint.

Steve

A friend contacted me one day to see if I was interested in shooting an album cover for a band called, "Steve". I had met some of the band roughly 16 years ago and over time had the opportunity to work with them on various projects. It is always an honor and pleasure to work with these guys.

Simple shot for an awesome band.

Best of 2007

This is one of my favorites promotions that I shot last year. This was shot on a Sony XDHD camera and all the effects (overcranking and shadow movement) were done in-camera.
Client - QVC
Director - Mike Gleason
Stylist - Jeff Gingrich
Dolly/Grip - Andrea G.

More past shoots...

When we shot this it seemed like just another day at work. But in seeing the edit the spot became a nice surprise.

Client: QVC
Producer/Director: unknown
Stylist: Christine McDonnell

I really love this shoot. While the setup was a nightmare everything came together in the end and Cynthia Garrett was an absolute pro and joy to work with. As a side note - I did not shoot the drum sequence. This was masterfully shot by Scott Kinkade.

Client: QVC
Producer/Director: Michelle Fallet
Second Unit DP (shooting drums): Scott Kinkade

the boys are back

That's right. My boys are back with their 10th Hometown Throwdown. Me and the 'tones have a long history and they are the one band I always go back to (with a close second going out to The Replacements/Paul Westerberg). God bless the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
